Plans and policies

Planning ensures that we understand the actions and priorities required to prepare for and respond to an influenza pandemic. This can help to lessen the effects of a pandemic when it does occur.

NSW plans are coordinated with emergency management arrangements and Commonwealth plans to form an effective response to a pandemic.

NSW Health plans

The NSW Health Interim Influenza Pandemic Action Plan is designed as a framework by which NSW Health should operate through the different phases of a pandemic.

The plan provides a description of the structural arrangements for coping with a pandemic, the key elements of preparedness and response, and roles and responsibilities in each phase of a pandemic.

Area health service planning

Each Area Health Service has emergency management committees overseeing local preparedness, with guidance from the NSW Department of Health.

All NSW Area Health Services have developed local pandemic influenza plans. For further information please contact your local Area Health Service.

Information is also available about our Plans in development.

NSW Health policies

This standing order sets out procedures for dispensing, supplying and administering the antivirals oseltamivir and zanamivir for the purpose of prophylaxis against influenza, when a medical officer is not available to prescribe them and prophylaxis is warranted.

This document describes the emergency department component of a broader area health service response to pandemic influenza.
