Legionnaires' disease

Legionnaires' disease is an infection of the lungs (pneumonia) caused by Legionella bacteria. One type of the bacterium lives in water and outbreaks occasionally occur linked to mist from contaminated cooling towers. Another type lives in soils and potting mix.

Notification

Legionnaires' disease is a notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported by phone as soon as possible after diagnosis.
 
Doctors, Hospitals and laboratories must notify the local Public Health Unit (PHU).
 
Select your local PHU  to obtain the correct notification form and notify your local PHU.
