Typhoid

Typhoid

Typhoid is caused by an infection with bacteria called Salmonella Typhi. In Australia, most typhoid infections are acquired overseas and occur after eating contaminated food or water in countries where typhoid is common.

Notification

Typhoid is a notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported by phone as soon as possible after diagnosis.
 
Doctors, Hospitals and laboratories must notify the local Public Health Unit (PHU).
 
Select your local PHU  to obtain the correct notification form and notify your local PHU.
