08 November 2006 New transit lounge for Coffs Harbour Health Campus
NSW Minister for Health John Hatzistergos opened the new six chair patient transit lounge during his visit to Coffs Harbour Health Campus today. Mr Hatzistergos said the transit lounge concept was a new direction in the way patients are treated in busy referral hospitals around the State. "The transit lounge allows people who are ready for discharge to be located in a non-ward area, while still receiving nursing care and supervision," he explained. "This means we can free up ward beds, using them for patients awaiting admission through the Emergency Department or for patients coming out of surgery." Mr Hatzistergos congratulated the Coffs Harbour Pink Ladies Auxiliary which fundraised $70,000 to help with the fit-out. "I have to thank the volunteers of the Pink Ladies for their commitment and generosity," he said. "The Auxiliary has raised more than $500,000 since the new Health Campus was established five years ago, which is a fantastic achievement. "The dedication of the Pink Ladies highlights the close and long-standing links between the community and the hospital. It is a strong historical connection that will continue well into the future."
